• Is their board certification active (not expired or lapsed)?

• Are they keeping up with maintenance of certification? Look for “Continuing Certification: Meeting requirements”

• Are they certified in psychiatry specifically, not a related but different field?

• Check out “first certified” as a way to tell how long they have been practicing in the field independently. Board certification is only obtained after all medical school and residency training is completed.
